MUST HAVE! Hand Drawn Sweatshirts by Shantell Martin
Shantell Martin is a long term friend and collaborator of Love 4 Culture and she just recently launched a collection of hand drawn sweatshirts and it is so AWESOME. I am declaring it as a must have for this season!
Shantell is a very talented girl who has participated in a lot of digital drawing and creativity exhibitions and have collaborated and consulted with Dell, NikeID, Coca Cola, Adidas (Japan), Tokyo Art Beat (Japan), CK Shock and Green Hippo, to name a few.

“From London to Tokyo to New York and back again, internationally acclaimed visual artist Shantell Martin is expanding conventional definitions of drawing and animation to transform visual experience in the design, fashion and music industries. Her dazzling light projections have been featured in iconic spots such as New York’s Museum of Modern Art, the megaclubs of Tokyo and Russia, and on the enormous screens at Shibuya and Harajuku crossings in Tokyo. Martin has quickly infiltrated popular culture stateside — she’s been cast as herself on quintessential New York show Gossip Girl, interviewed on CNN, appeared on an NBC morning show, and deemed a muse of super-hip design blog, PSFK. In October 2011, she was interviewed in French Glamour as New York’s “coolest it girl.””
This is her first collection of wearable art, with 15 sweaters with hand illustrated and one of a kind drawings that are just very unique.
“All 15 sweatshirts represent one continuous quirky storyline of whimsy and imagination, with characters, creatures and messages playfully arranged in signature Shantell Martin style.”

Draw and Feel Alive Collection
It’s been a good weekend. We got a delivery of samples from our new Draw and Feel Alive range yesterday from our trusted printer, Paul Layton. The man moves slowly but his quality is unbeatable. The collection includes t-shirts and jumpers featuring designs by none other than artist, VJ, illustrator Shantell Martin who was the creative talent behind the “Draw and Feel Alive” event we hosted in November last year night, see pictures here.
The garments will go on sale shortly with a portion of proceeds donated to Clothing 4 Culture’s Draw and Feel Alive campaign which intends to raise as many pens and pencils for children in Ghana as possible. Read more about it here. Give us some feedback please !

"Draw and Feel Alive" by C4C
Clothing 4 Culture’s ”Draw and Feel Alive” campaign is based around two designs by illustrator Shantell Martin exclusively for Clothing 4 Culture (C4C). Shantell recently hosted a live art exhibition sponsored by C4C where the attendees offered up their own skin as the canvas. Read all about the event here.
At our Christmas party in association with Rhumble (18 December 2010, 11-13 Market Place, London, W1), we will unveil Shantell’s designs on a selection of t-shirts, jumpers and bags. These exclusive items will be available to purchase on the night with proceeds going to support the “Draw and Feel Alive” campaign.
The intention behind the “Draw and Feel Alive” campaign is to make a practical difference to the daily lives of hundreds of children who do not easily have access to writing and drawing utensils. Draw and Feel Alive conveys the idea that children can learn and express themselves creatively through drawing and writing and might even discover hidden talents.
The campaign’s aim is to raise as many pencils and pens as possible to send to schools in Ghana, with several trips planned over the next year.
We’re starting on a small scale but we have big aims. It all begins with the Christmas party and your donation.
Although entry to the party is FREE, we ask that you support the campaign by bringing a few pens/pencils/crayons/ paints/ brushes to donate. At the end of the evening the box containing your donated items will be sealed and shipped to GHANA.
Join in the spirit of giving and help kids in Ghana to “Draw and Feel Alive”.

C4C Draw and Feel Alive exhibition
A few sample snaps from the Clothing 4 Culture “Draw and Feel Alive” exhibition last Wednesday. New York based illustrator Shantell Martin initiated more brave members to her pen tribe including Love4Culture’s very own mythical wordsmith The Meehan.
Like a man on a surgeons operating table, The Meehan waited apprehensively for the outcome.
The event took place at Dream Bags Jaguar Shoes in Shoreditch. In typical Love4Culture fashion, the vibe felt just like a bunch of friends coming together to enjoy a different kind of creative night out.
The interesting thing about Shantell’s method is that she doesn’t know what she’s going to draw before she starts. She works off instinct which means everybody gets a unique piece. So enticing that even C4C’s Oge offered himself up!
Like brick walls for graffiti artists or tracing paper for cartoonists, your skin provides the canvas, a creative medium for Shantell to unleash her talents on. My favourite pieces are these sleeves.
There was something for everyone. Even those feeling a little more apprehensive about body art were able to dip their toes or hands into the water. Good times!

London I’m coming home! Only for a week though, the second week in November to be exact and there’s two places you can catch me doing my thing at before I hightail out of there again.
Open your diaries at 10 November and stick this in:
Its live art where you are the canvas, come and kick it with us and get drawn on. Each time I draw on someone I get a guest photographer to capture it, documenting the rise of my pen tribe. From Tokyo to New York, to Miami and Channel 7 news, don’t miss the London leg of my Person Line!
And then stick this on 13 November:
Catch me doing my sketch projection here!

Shantell in New BREMEN Video
Alright, Shantell Martin update (that sentence works better in third person, forgive me): So I’m featuring in the new BREMEN music video Daisy Daisy and as well as being a super cute video it’s cool because Daisy is the name of my new niece that’s going to be with us in the Fall.
BREMEN are an awesome dance / rock band out of Japan and they got me in to do my VJing bit for the new video. Check out the making of it…
And here’s the finished video…
Head over to BREMEN’s website to download it for free now! And see more of what I’m up to over at Shantellmartin.com.

Say Hello to Shantell Martin

©Adrian Tan
Hey there I’m Shantell Martin and I draw. Well it’s a little more than that but I don’t like to complicate things, “simples”. Keep an eye out for me on here and you’ll find out more.
I hope your summer’s full of nice little adventures cos mine sure has been already. So I’ve been living in New York for just over a year now and things are really starting to kick off.
A couple of months ago I had my first solo show in the Big Apple and it went down a storm. It was an interactive installation that expanded and even spilled out into the streets during its two-week duration.

Last week, Radar (an online video series that focuses on emerging art and ideas) ran an episode about my Hidden Ora shows I did last winter. Check it out it’ll give you a better insight into some of the things I do…
I recently debuted some new technology, which I’m super excited about. It combines 3D and drawing application with sound, stay tuned for videos. I’ll be keeping you updated with my adventures every so often on Love4culture but you can always check out Shantellmartin.com for a regular fix.
I’m also working with C4C on a very cool project so watch this space for more info! Over and out.
