Banksy and the 7/7 print

Above is the controversial print that has gone on display in Banksy pop-up gallery in London. By a chap called Mark Sinclair, the piece is called Age of Shiver and depicts the wreckage of the bus destroyed in the 7 July London terror attacks with angels flying above it.

Sinclair has said, “What I’m trying to do is to make anyone that has a faith, a belief, or an idea they hold close to their heart to think about the impact of these ideas when they leave their heads. I wanted to jolt people into seeing the results of these thoughts put into action.”

But John Falding, whose partner Anat Rosenberg died in the Tavistock Square attack, said he found the picture “quite upsetting”.

And in some quarters it’s even been suggested that the four angels above the bus are meant to represent the suicide bombers, of which there were four, and have gone as far to propose that it is in fact a tribute to the terrorist.

What do you think: “jolted” into thinking about belief systems or just upsetting?

The print is on display along with Banksy works at the Marks & Stencils gallery @ 1 Berwick Street, Soho until 22nd December.

2 New Pieces from Banksy

Two new Banksy works have popped up in LDN.  One is a brilliant take on my favourite artist Keith Haring’s dog.

Apparently that particular piece (on the Grange, SE1) has been covered up with hoarding by a property owner who says he is protecting the piece. The vigilante graffiti artist is now a national treasure?

Banksy does The Simpsons

Check out what Banksy came up with when asked by The Simpsons exec producer Al Jean to do the opening credits.

Apparently inspired by reports that the show outsources the bulk of their animation to a company in South Korea, the controversial street artist has said that his storyboard led to delays, disputes over broadcast standards and a threatened walk out by the animation department.

Warning: This may be disturbing to some viewers:

New Banksy

3 new Banksy works have just popped up at undisclosed locations. I wonder whether these are the maverick guerilla artist’s response to being labelled a sell-out after two of his works appeared in HMV Oxford Circus recently to promote his new DVD… if so, the locations are probably somewhere in LDN…

Thought I might as well throw in a video treat for all the Banksy fans out there.
