World’s first billion-dollar home
Last month, India’s richest man (5th richest man in the world according to Forbes) built the world’s first billion-dollar home! His name is Mukesh Ambani, he owns an oil, retail and biotechnology conglomerate called Reliance Industries, and he moved into the fantasy property with his wife and three children.
The house – called Antilia, after a mythical island – is a 27-storey building smack bang in the middle of Mumbai that mere mortals like you and I could not conceive in our wildest dreams (only in that when you and I think of our dream home, we think mansion, white, Scarface, and not a bloody supped-up version of the Waldorf Astoria!).

So it cost about £44m to build but due to house prices in the city and it’s “features and fittings” it would be worth $1bn if it went on the market. And here’s why: 27-floors, 4,532-square-metre plot, car parking for 160 cars, an in-house car service centre, made entirely of glass and stands at 570-feet tall, *breath* 50-seater cinema, several swimming pools, two-storey health club, 600 full-time members of staff, three helipads and a superb view of the city’s skyline plus the Arabian Sea. *collapse in capitalist-orgasmic heap*
Check out some of the design drawings of the humble abode…

Now if you may cast your minds back to the Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire. Yep it’s set in the same city as Ambani’s high-rise palace (the locality is blighted by slums), begging the question should Ambani be made to give up a few floors to the city’s slumdogs? A sort of poverty tax…

Back to the Future Hoax
Are we living in the future that Robert Zemeckis’ sci-fi classic envisaged? If you believe internet hoaxes then yes we are.
Apparently today (or yesterday depending on your source) was the day Marty McFly arrived at in the future after hitting 88 mph in his Delorean from 1985… This rumour, kicked off by movie magazine Total Film is currently doing the rounds (along with several Photoshopped screengrabs from the film).
However, Total Film have now ’fessed up. It was all one giant hoax. Marty never travelled to 2010 although 5 July 2010 was mentioned in the film. Nice one Dan Goodswen. Not a random fact after all…just random…
“If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits eighty-eight miles per hour… you’re gonna see some serious shit.“ Dr Emmett Brown (Back to the Future, Part I)
