2011 in Pictures

So as we get ready to wave goodbye to 2011, like a contestant on X Factor here’s its best bits… Well maybe not so much best bits but just bits, what happened, the major incidents and small things that made the last 365 days what it was – captured in stunning colour by snappers around the globe and compiled by The Boston Globe’s photo editors. From the tsunami that tore through Japan to the people’s movement that engulfed the Arab world, here’s a snippet of The Big Picture’s Year in Pictures (links for the full galleries below)…

The World’s Loneliest Places

While using Google Street View to scout for potential locations to shoot a new film in LA, director/photographer Aaron Hobson stumbled across something way cooler – some of the far-flung locations the Google camera-equipped fleet had been. So after a bout of some virtual exploring Hobson has put together a gallery of some of the most stunning/moody shots from the world map CCTV service, featuring some of the planet’s most remote areas. The collection is simply called Street View and is simply awesome! Here’s some of my favourite spots, see the rest at Aaronhobson.com

Dog's Island, Ireland

Prejmer, Romania

Route 17, South Africa

Utsira, Norway

Crotone, Italy

Conversations With My Conscience

Conversations With My Conscience is the first of a series of unique exhibitions in London, in which the artists and designers communicate their views concerning current affairs.

The first installment The London Riots focuses on the recent unrest in London, and will include the work of eighteen artists and seven wordsmiths. The exhibition is created by Graphic Designer Abi Wright, a Londoner who explained the reason for her choice of subject matter: “I thought it was fitting to start with the riots as itʼs been such a pivotal topic of controversy, something we like to shy away from,” says Abi Wright.

Conversations With My Conscience : The Riots opens for a private view on Thursday 3rd November 2011 at The City Arts and Music Project (The CAMP) in London, and runs through to November 16th. Please RSVP to info.CWMC@gmail.com.
