Biggest Resort 2013 Trends

Resort 2013 collections have all been presented already from New York to Paris and I must say, these clothes would make you want to spend days and days at St Tropez, tanning and drinking booze. Vivid colors and bold patterns, typical of the season, dominated, but designers also took cues from the oversize proportions seen during fall and experimented with layering and volume. Peplums, a carryover from spring, remained a popular trend, while neon hues added an unexpected twist to bohemian prints. Here’s the complete list of the resort 2013 trends:

1. Collar Bling

Adding a statement necklace has been the go-to solution to spice up simple tees and dresses, but these pieces have sparkle built in. Beaded and bejeweled necklines popped up on blouses, tees, and sheath dresses. This trend was seen at Elizabeth and James, Jason Wu, Philip Lim, Moschino and Louis Vuitton.

2. Cheeky Prints

While florals are usually the go to fabrics during this season, some designers decided to mix it up and play with bold and fun patterns too. Some were conceptual: Carven covered a skirt suit with a map and Céline showed a graphic head-to-toe polka-dot look. Others were more cartoony: House of Holland dreamed up muppetlike creatures and Giles Deacon sketched girls with bright pouts and flashy sunglasses. And finally, Acne cashed in with photo prints of currency on a pantsuit.

3. More Lace

Rendered in pastel hues, lace can come off saccharine, but dyed in saturated navys, maroons, and deep pinks, the feminine fabric gets a modern update. These dresses are sure to win over even the most ardently androgynous dresser. Seen at Erdem, Marc Jacobs, Alberta Ferretti, Erin Fetherston and Nina Ricci.

 4. Culottes
Yes, you read that right. Apparently, designers are tired of short shorts so they decided to lengthen the shorts and loosen it up a little bit. It is not a flattering look for everyone though. orn with a sturdy heel or wedge, these airy cropped trousers look perfectly polished when paired with a fitted blouse or sharply tailored blazer.
5. Electric Bohemian
Bohemian-inspired looks are to be expected in a season catering to those who embark on far-flung adventures, but these prints are amped up to eleven, with jolts of neon pink, orange, and green.
6. Jumpsuits
Every designer must have had at least one or two items that are jumpsuits. I bet Jennifer Lopez is jumping up and down now! They ranged from disco-influenced at Cedric Charlier to minimal at Band of Outsiders to opulent and black-tie appropriate at Alexander McQueen.
7. Peplums Galore
When peplums first appeared on the runways last spring, the look seemed to be one of those flash-in-the-pan things. But the fall runways demonstrated its staying power, and resort confirms its ongoing appeal. Take your pick from denim at Chanel, lace at Francesco Scognamiglio, and printed silk at Oscar de la Renta. Will the look continue to linger? Place your bets.
8. Transparency
Sheer white layering brought a minimalist’s take to warm-weather dressing, acting as a palate cleanser to the abundance of color and pattern.
9. The Olympics

The marriage between fashion and sports continues, with athletic-inspired pieces like track pants, drawstring shorts, and anoraks artfully juxtaposed against heels and bright miniskirts.
